On the heels of its Golden Globe nominations and a host of regional critics awards as the year's best movie (or certainly one of the year's best), The Hurt Locker will expand this weekend, although they're calling it a re-release. It's still playing in some major markets without much of a marketing push, but beginning this Friday, you can find it in a host of cities around the country.
You'd need to see it in theaters between now and January 12th, anyway, because for reasons I can't figure, the film isn't on DVD yet, over five months after it was released. That seems like a shame, given the run on DVDs made at the end of the year and the aforementioned heaps of praise being given to the film this month.
So beginning Friday, the film will be back in more theaters, and I highly recommend you check it out if you missed it this summer. Here's a partial list of locations; I apologize that I don't have the specific theaters for you, but this should be a good start:

We've mentioned this before, but I think it bears repeating because with each passing day, it seems like a bigger possibility: Kathryn Bigelow might win Best Director at the Academy Awards, and that would be the first time a female director has picked up the top technical honor in moviedom. She'll be nominated, it's safe to say, and even that is something she shares with only a handful of other women.

Would-be reality TV stars can crash the White House.
But real stars -- the old-fashioned kind?
Forget about it.
G2 has learned that entertainment legend Mickey Rooney, who has met every previous president since FDR, tried to crash the White House by showing up without an appointment while he was in town early last month.
"It was very spur of the moment," explained Mr. Rooney's personal manager, Kevin Pawley. "The guards recognized him but would not let him in. He was OK with it."
It seems the 89-year-old Mr. Rooney, named the No. 1 box-office draw in movies three years in a row (1939-41), was in Washington as an honoree of a war veterans group Nov. 8-9 and wanted to stop by to shake the hand of President Obama and talk about veterans affairs, Mr. Rooney's passion.
"No successful gate-crashing even for him," Mr. Pawley says with a laugh.
Mickey Rooney will be appearing as Baron Hardup in Cinderella at Milton Keynes Theatre in England until January 17. He will also be in three films to be released in 2010
Mickey Rooney Trivia
With movie appearances stretching from 1926 to 2007, totaling 81 years, his is the longest career in cinema history, surpassing that of Lillian Gish.
In 1938, he was severely reprimanded by MGM studio head Louis B. Mayer for having a torrid affair with Norma Shearer. Mickey was 18 at the time. Shearer was 38
He was awarded 3 Stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Radio, Movies and TV.
During World War II he served 22 months in the U.S. Army, five of them with the Third Army of Gen. George S. Patton. Rooney attained the rank of Sergeant, and won a Bronze Star, among other decorations
Honorary Oscar for Lifetime Achievement in 1983

"Alonzo Mourning and I were the Grand Marshals at the Winterfest Boat Parade in Florida! It was pouring rain and we had to be on the front of the boat... what an adventure!! Despite the terrible rain, the parade was beautiful and really put me in the Christmas spirit! Rob came with me and we stayed at the amazing Hard Rock Hotel in Hollywood, Florida."

Guys, I have to tell you about 50000shoes.com. Soles 4 Souls, an amazing organization that helps provide shoes for people around the world who can't afford to buy their own, has set up a website where you can donate money to the cause! By donating just $5 you can sponsor two pairs of shoes to someone in need around the world!
Soles 4 Souls have already made a difference in many childrens' lives. One little girl, Maria, was so delighted with her new pair of shoes she didn’t want to take them out of the box because she didn't want to get them dirty. So adorable!!!!
We can all do something for someone else this holiday season, so please donate.

British Lions rugby legend Gareth Thomas Come Out
Gareth Thomas is a sporting legend. He captained Wales in 2005 to their first Grand Slam victory since 1978. The same year he captained the British Lions tour of New Zealand.
With 100 caps to his name - more than any other player in Welsh history - he has one of the fiercest reputations on the field, and a row of missing front teeth to prove it.
At 6ft 3in and 16st of pure muscle, his masculinity has always been an absolute given.

As a young man he bonded with rugby mates in the pub over tales of sexual conquests, and flirted with pretty girls eager to bag a sporting hero.
After his marriage in 2002 to teenage sweetheart Jemma - the woman he called his 'rock' - he spoke movingly of their desire to become parents and the heartbreak of her suffering three miscarriages.
And if anyone dared to suggest he was anything other than 100 per cent straight, Gareth 'Alfie' Thomas was prepared to make them see the error of their ways. With his fists, if necessary.
But, as he admits in the Daily Mail today, it was all a pretence, a fragile artifice - and one which came crashing down around his ears on November 4, 2006, following a Wales game in Cardiff.
Breaking down in tears in the changing rooms of the Millennium Stadium, Gareth finally realised he could not go on living a lie. Keeping his true sexuality a secret was destroying him.

That secret, which he'd kept hidden his entire career, was - he admits now - 'like a tight knot in my stomach, always threatening to seep out'.
He says: 'I was like a ticking bomb. I thought I could suppress it, keep it locked away in some dark corner of myself, but I couldn't.
'It was who I was, and I just couldn't ignore it any more.
'I'd been through every emotion under the sun trying to deal with this.
'You wake up one morning thinking: "I can handle it. Everything is fine," and the next morning you don't want anyone to see your face, because you think that if people look at you, they will know.'
That summer, he had confessed the truth to his devastated wife Jemma, unable to cope with the guilt of deceiving her.
But even as their marriage crumbled, he'd somehow hoped to maintain his charade for the rest of the world.
'My life seemed to be falling apart. Jemma and I were splitting up, and I was scared of the future and being single again as a gay man,' says Gareth, 35.
'A coach named Scott Johnson, a great man, came up to me in the dressing room after the game for a chat and I just broke down in tears.
'He said: "What's up?" 'I said: "Me and Jemma have split," and he said: "Oh no, what's happened?" Then he said: "I know what's happened, I know what it is."'
Somehow, the coach had guessed.

The week before last I flew to Atlanta, GA for this big party being thrown to commemorate the 70th anniversary of my favorite movie, Gone with the Wind (no, I'm not one of those people who dress up in costumes, although I have been told I'd make a good southern belle...hmmm). There I met up with two friends from Warsaw, Poland, and we took a "gone with the wind" roadtrip through the South. It's something I'd wanted to do for years and years, particularly as this was my first time to that part of the US. Our route took us from Atlanta to Jonesboro, which is slightly south, and then to Savannah and Charleston and back. Savannah was my favorite--it's the definition of southern charm and the architecture is amazing (as is Charleston).
My main reason for wanting to go to Savannah was to visit Bonaventure Cemetery, which is referenced in one of my fave non-fiction books, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt (haven't read it? Recommended!). It was built on what used to be the grounds of a plantation, on a bluff overlooking the Savannah River. The cover of Berendt's book features a statue called The Bird Girl, which became so famous after the book was published that it was taken out of the cemetery and put in a museum.
Still, Bonaventure Cemetery is all sorts of creepy and amazing. So, I thought I'd share some of my photos.

Little Gracie Watson is one of the most visited graves in the cemetery. Gracie died from pneumonia when she was 6 years old, and a year later, sculptor John Walz carved this life-size statue from a photo taken shortly before she died. Her grave has become to popular that caretakers at Bonventure had to erect an iron fence around it to keep tourists out.

Hello! Long time lurker, this is such a great community for some artisic inspiration. Now I guess I'll go on ahead and introduce myself! ( My name is Jenna Nation, and I am nothing but a southern belle. )

Hello, I figured it was about time for an introduction. I'm Danielle, I'm 19 (20 on December 7 aka Pearl Harbor Day) and I'm currently at Keene State College in New Hampshire. I'm going to be an English major, but that's really only because I have no idea what I want to do with my life. I'm really into photography, although I don't consider myself exceptionally good at it, but I'd like to keep learning about it. I listen to music pretty much nonstop and my all time favorite band will always be Brand New. Right now I'm also really into Band of Horses, Cobra Starship, Northstar, Kings of Leon, MGMT, Paramore, and basically anything that's fun. I'm completely obsessed with Harry Potter and True Blood, and I probably watch way too much tv (Gossip Girl, Glee, Heroes, Gilmore Girls, etc). I'm also obsessed with buying clothes, it's pretty bad. I can't really think of any other interesting things to say about myself so how about some pictures? I would love some new friends too!
